If you are female, and own a bathroom scale, you know the lies they can tell. One of the biggest complaints about bathroom scales is that they are not only inaccurate, but also inconsistent. There are digital bathroom scales that measure body fat, which is often a better indication of how fit the body is. These fat measurements are often inaccurate, but on a positive note, the inaccuracies are consistent.

Most of our personal problems with scales originate with the purchase of cheap, inferior scales. Many models of the basic digital scale are accurate, consistent, and quite easy to read. One thought is to take your scale to the doctor’s office or diet center, synchronize it to their medical scale, and rest assured that your readings are reliable. Medical scales are an expensive investment, but their results are incredibly accurate. Chest-level measurements are easy to read, and their weight limits are higher than regular bathroom scales.

Analog bathroom scales with mechanical needle displays (often inaccurate and difficult to read) are being phased out and replaced by digital bathroom scales. Some digital bathroom scales can measure up to 500 pounds, and some are capable of talking to you, which might kick off an ugly two-way conversation if it attempts to lie.

To measure consistency, step on and off the scale several times; you should land on the same reading each time. Although most scales cannot accurately measure body fat, you can track the progress you are making in decreasing body fat from these readings. Pregnant women and people with pacemakers should not use this feature that runs on a small electrical pulse. Analog scales with white backgrounds and dark numbers and needles are easily read. Look for electronic scales with backlit displays and large numbers. Some bathroom scales can store and analyze your data.
